For week four, we were instructed to record some audio
content for our blog, and record in a word document, the equipment and
technique used. A group of students went
in our studio located within the loop campus.
Our gear included two microphone stands, two AKG-C414, and a Zoom
recorder.
I chose to
record an “on the spot” improv version of a fake radio commercial for my
recording two class. The idea for the
commercial requires much more detail, but for the sake of the lab, conducting
different character voices, and to be able to practice a sketch idea for my
later project, it seemed like a great idea to try and post.
This
recording was performed by myself, recorded onto a AKG-C414 through a Zoom
Recorder, and lightly tampered with in ProTools. I had plans of cleaning up and modulating my
voice a bit but then I decided to leave it clean. I want to show people how a natural voice
sounds when recorded on a condenser microphone.
I also wanted to provide an example; your voice doesn’t natural sound
the same way you personal think it does.
After listening to this recording I have a better idea of how to improve
my voice and I have an understanding of the benefit that good equipment can
bring. Personally I think I sound a
little like a chipmunk on this recording.
I chose ProTools because I’m familiar with it, and the microphones were
set up loosely onto of a carpet.
So, without
delay, here is a goofy first sketch/idea attempt for the “Pro Wingman”
commercial.
