Introduction

Hello, my name is Richard Sample and welcome to my newly created student blog.  For the sake of professionalism, classroom supported discussion and intrigue, I have created a blog to center around one of many personal interests to expand to idea of what a media delivery system can be.  I chose to center my blog on sound design.  Personally, I find the idea of creating ones own sound effects or character voices to be fun, engaging, and experimental.  During this quarter, as I work on this blog, I hope to find interviews with professionals in the field, create our own sound effects and learn more about sound design, and hopefully post some videos of “how to do” or “how they did” on the actually making of original sound. 

            For my first blog post I wanted to include a short bio about myself.  I was born in Baltimore, and have also lived in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and currently Illinois.  I studied History and communications but currently am enrolled through AI, the art institute of Chicago, studying Audio Production.  

            I have always been impressed by the ability to make a specific sound, like a frog croak, out of strange house hold items.  Such as; a tight string attached to a bow with another stick pressed firmly down and drawn across the string to create a low, ruff, strained sound similar to a frogs croak.  Artists like Mel Blanc created sounds for Warner Brothers in this fashion, and entertainers like Billy West, have been creating cartoon voices and entertaining children and adults alike with characters like, Ren and Stimpy and other assorted cast from shows like Futurama. 

            But how dose it all happen? How does someone break ground in this field?  I hope to learn more as the weeks press on, and hopefully this will be fun for anybody interested.
